The Blessed- a poem based on Matthew 5 and Psalm 126

Blessed are the broken
The poor, the meek who mourn
Comfort and the kingdom
To them when earth’s reborn

And blessed the unrighteous
Who long to be made right
They that deal in mercy
Will be holy in his sight

So, blessed are the broken, Lord
Bless’d are those who weep
For they that sow in bitter tears
Will joy eternal reap
They that sow in bitter tears
Will joy eternal reap

Blessed is the heart that’s pure
Aching to make peace
Watch God these sons and daughters call
To gather in from west to east

Blessed are you when they hate
And afflict you for the name
Heaven holds your great reward
You won’t be put to shame
For Christ will raise you up again
Yes, he’ll raise you up again!

So, blessed are the broken, Lord!
Bless’d are those who weep
They that sow in bitter tears
Will joy eternal reap
They that sow in bitter tears
Will joy eternal reap
